Questionable Bond No. 14

Where would Mr. Bond be without his gadgets? Dead probably. Yeah, dead.

Question: "What was the coolest gadget Bond was given?"

Andrew's Answer: Of all the cool gadgets Bond has had, the one that keeps coming to my mind is the watch with the magnet in it from Live And Let Die. I don't know why, but that's just cool.

Scott's Answer: Man, this is a tough one! Even though it only appears briefly at the beginning, my answer would be the jetpack in Thunderball... because who wouldn't want a jetpack?

Yeah, its a car but its the Swiss Army Knife of cars.

True that! :)

The Aston Martin. It was the first ever "Spy Hunter" car.

But to bring something else to the table, the wrist-dart gun used in "Moonraker".

That wrist dart gun was cool. Except, though out the movie he keeps fighting Jaws with limited success, but never uses it. Then at the end he uses it to shot an old guy. Weak.

I gotta go with the briefcase in From Russia With Love. That's really where the Bond movie gadgets begin and it's a really good one.

Shawn, The Aston Martin is awesome. Great choice!

Dwizzum, That was kind of a let down. They made a big deal of it and then used it about two minutes later and then ignored it. Boooo.

tryanmax, I love the idea of the exploding briefcase. And you're right, that really was his first true gadget wasn't it?

No love for invisible cars, eh?

It may be a cheat but my favorite is the Walther PPK.

Surprisingly, no, no love for the invisible car.

I like the Walther PPK. It's an interesting gun for him to use, especially with other action heroes trying to hide behind bigger and bigger guns.

I am old school so the old movies and gadgets are what I remember best. My favorite was the Aston Martin from Goldfinger. When I was in high school, I went to the Philadelphia Civic Center to see the Black Watch pipe band, and the Aston Martin was there to put on an exhibition. Second place would be the briefcase in From Russia with Love

Jed, There's always something to be said for old school! And those are good choices.

The explosive pen one triggered (and turned off) by clicking twice was kind of cool. I liked the scene where the evil computer geek clicked it 40 times really quickly.

That was pretty cool -- Goldeneye.

The Aston-Martin DB-5 is the ultimate gadget, of course, and I love the FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE briefcase (also with hidden throwing knife and gold sovereigns), the underused wristwatch dart gun in MOONRAKER and the exploding click-pen in GOLDENEYE.

Since those have already been mentioned, I'll go with the mini underwater breather in THUNDERBALL. Oh, and 'Little Nellie' in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. Bond's whistle-to-explode-me key chain in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS was pretty cool, too.

There's one gadget that I guess most people assume comes from Q Branch, but doesn't... but I'll wait and point it out when the film in question gets its ranking.

Backthrow, All the underwater stuff in impressive when you consider that they had to invent most of it.
