I Need Your Help! :)

Folks, I need your help. I’ve mentioned before that I’ve written two books, and now they are available at Amazon on the Kindle and in paperback. You could all really help me out by buying them and then posting reviews at Amazon, because more than anything else, reviews make books successful these days. Please do me this favor! I’ve even discounted them this week as a blog-buddy discount.

The two books are legal thrillers (the conservative film book will come later in the year). I’ve priced both books on the Kindle at $5 for the next couple days so you all can get them cheaper. Sometime this weekend the prices will go up to $7.99. The paperbacks are $14.99 because of their pricing rules.

If you don’t have a Kindle, you can turn your computer/tablet/phone/etc. into one with a free app from Amazon (HERE) or you can read it at the Amazon cloud.

Thanks for your help everyone! Here are details on the two books:

The first book is Without A Hitch. It’s a story of a government attorney who comes up with the perfect crime, but things go wrong in a rather unexpected way. I don’t want to say too much more because I don’t want to ruin the surprise. But I’ve had several people read it and they’ve all been amazingly positive in their reviews.

Here’s the Kindle link: Without A Hitch. You can get to the paperback through my author page here.

The second book is Wrongful Death, it’s a crime story wrapped up in a medical malpractice case. Again, my readers were exceedingly positive.

Here’s the Kindle link: Wrongful Death. Again, you can find the paperback at my author page here.

I’ve also set up pretty cool websites for each: Without A Hitch, Wrongful Death and an author blog AndrewPriceBooks. Please check those out too! Thanks everybody!

As someone who's been lucky enough to read both of Andrew's books before they were published, my recommendation is that you buy both books. Fast. They are true page-turners.

You need one of those smarmy author's headshots, where you're wearing a plaid shirt and there's a stand of pines behind you while you're displaying a pretentious smirk.

BevfromNYC said...

Okay! Done...now if the all the reviews are accurate, you might not hear from me for a few days! Oh, and why does Amazon give a word count? Do people actually buy books based on the word count? Just wondering.

AndrewPrice said...

Writer X, Thanks! And thanks for all your help! :)

tryanmax said...

Bev, since I started buying Kindle books, I do give it a glance. When I'm just browsing for something interesting, it tells whether the item is a novel, a short story, or an article. It also tells you whether the price is in line with the product. I've passed over some stuff because the price seemed too high for the word count.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, Sadly, I have no such picture. Wanna draw one for me?

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Thanks! I hope you enjoy them. :)

I put the word count there because when I started buying Kindle books I found it frustrating that the file size doesn't tell you how large the really book is and a lot of them are very, very short. Even when they put an estimated page count, that's often nowhere near accurate. So I figured that putting the word count would let people know this wasn't a 20 page book.

AndrewPrice said...

By the way, if any of you think of any tags that should be added, please feel free to add them. I'm sure there are bunches I missed.

(For those who aren't familiar with Amazon, tags are near the middle/bottom and the are the search terms for the books.)

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, Same here. I've run into things that looked like real books, were priced like real books, and I almost bought them until I saw the file size and it was something like 25k. That's probably ten pages in a word processor.

DUQ said...

Andrew, Nice work! Congratulations. I will definitely give you a review. :D

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks DUQ! I appreciate the help! And I think you'll like the books. :)

Unknown said...

Andrew: Congratulations, again. I read the first book, but haven't seen the second one yet. If the second is like the first, you have a couple of hits on your hands.

Doc Whoa said...

Andrew, Congratulations! I will definitely help out. I've enjoyed everything you've written here and I suspect you're a good fiction writer too. And I will, of course, speak my mind. :)

Doc Whoa said...

I am now following your book site too. :)

In sad book news, Ray Bradbury died today.

rlaWTX said...

Sorta OT: my uncle (God bless his peapickin little soul) gave my grandmother a Kindle for Mother's Day. I have now explained most of the process numerous times, spent upward of 6 hours doing so, and my mom has done a bit of the same again. My dear grandmother is still pretty clueless. Right now, I am not in a good place about Kindle - or my uncle. sigh.

However, I will check these out with the app on my laptop. [And I know that if I go over to the dark side, I want a Fire.]

rlaWTX said...

[I thought Ray Bradbury was already dead. oops]

T-Rav said...

"God bless his peapickin little soul." I'm gonna have to remember that one.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Lawhawk! And thanks for your help on the first one. I hope these become a hit. That would be pretty cool. :)

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Doc! I appreciate the help! Tell your friends too.

Thanks for following the writer site. Make sure to check out the book sites too, they're pretty snazzy IMO.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, My mother is starting to get into the Kindle and she's 100% non-tech savvy. If she can learn, your grandmother will learn too. :)

"peapickin little soul" -- LOL!

Thanks for checking them out! I appreciate all the help I can get from folks. So please do review them afterwards. :)

In truth, I thought Bradbury was dead already as well. The article says he was 91.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, That is a new on me too. You learn something every day at C-rama! :)

I was also able to read these before publication and while I'm not a big legal thriller fan, I enjoyed both of them, Wrongful Death even more than Without a Hitch, which I would classify as one of those "Waiting for the other shoe to drop" stories.

I don't own a Kindle but I had no idea I could just read it in my browser! Amazon makes this all very easy.

P.S. I also thought Bradbury had passed away years ago. But this reminds me: I'm terribly behind on my classic sci-fi lit. I read F451 in high school 15 years ago and that's it.

AndrewPrice said...

Scott, Amazon makes it incredibly easy -- you can just read it in your browser. I never knew that either until I looked into it.

I actually prefer Without A Hitch, but your mileage will vary. :)

I'm behind on reading my science fiction too. Heck, I'm behind on all my reading!

tryanmax said...

I also read these in advance of publication and, like Scott, am not a legal thriller fan, but I am a fan of techno-thrillers, which is what these books are more like. They just happen to be technical about the law, which is a nice departure from fantasy law. (Hmm, fantasy law... Hermione Granger, LLM?)

In any case, real page-turners (or whatever the Kindle equivalent gesture is)! I read Without A Hitch in two sittings, a real feat for an ADD type like me.

<><><><><><>

On eldertech, I am fascinated by the range of response older people have to technology. While I know that some people's grandparents gave up on tech when they failed to stop their VCRs from blinking 12:00 all the time, my own grandparents have kept up nicely.

On one hand, my mother's parents drew the line at email, but considering they have been self-professedly old for at least 30 years, that is quite an achievement. On the other hand, my father's mother has her laptop and her smart phone and can run rings around me with a DVR. (No, I don't know how to work a DVR. That's what Hulu is for.)

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, That is quite a trick since it's a 400 page book!

Eldertech. LOL! My mother is very not-tech savvy, but she's slowly learning bit by bit. And the technologies which make it easiest are the ones she's gravitating toward -- one touch stuff.

Notawonk said...

Congrats, brother. I know the work that went into this venture and I wish you nothing but success.

T-Rav said...

The only Bradbury piece I read (all the way through, at least) was A Sound of Thunder. Liked it. The SciFi "original movie" created a few years ago based on it--not so much.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Patti! I hope it works out too. I love writing and I'd love to be able to do more of it and less of the day job. :)

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, Yeah, that was a weak movie. I haven't read the book though. I've read several of his books, though I can't name them all. One I definitely liked (and loved the film) was Something Wicked This Way Comes (reviewed HERE).

ScyFyterry said...

Way cool! I will absolutely buy your books! :)

ScyFyterry said...

Andrew, The second one doesn't have the Kindle look inside feature. Is there a reason one does and the other doesn't? (Just asking)

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Terry!

Amazon does that automatically. I'm not sure why one works and the other doesn't yet, though I'm told it can take a few days.

In the meantime, you can tell it (on the right) to send a sample to your Kindle -- that works.

Ed said...

Awesome! I wish you the best.

rlaWTX said...

"Eldertech" - yeah, it's making me elder alright...
The computer is a large, non-portable solitaire game for my granpa (92yo). My granma (83 yo) can check email (unless anything other than what she"always does" is necessary) and buy Big Fish games. She's lost a few steps the last couple of years. Plus her macular degeneration gets in the way. We had hoped that the Kindle would allow her to read more because of the large print, but he process is getting us stuck. Also, there are 8 million and three "Bible apps" for smartphones, but very few Kindle Bibles that are user friendly yet - very frustrating since her large-print Bible is slightly smaller than the Queen Mary.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Ed!

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, Nice use of tryanmax's word! :)

I would have thought for sure there would be good Bibles on Kindle. What's the problem with the ones you've found?

rlaWTX said...

You can go to the Book and possibly the chapter, but nothing more specific than that - unless you happen to know the "location #" which is a teensy-tiny little number at the bottom of the screen. When you have the font rather large paging through the book of Matthew (28 chapters) or Psalms (150 chapters)... And there are only 2 NIVs. A user created a user friendly KJV and Kindle used it, but the publishers have been slow to get involved.

AndrewPrice said...

Interesting. With the table of contents feature, you should be able to make it more accessible than that by making subparts of the books into subheaders. That way you could go directly to chapters (maybe even verses if you want to go that deep).

That sounds like an interesting opportunity for anyone who cares to type the Bible into Word.

rlaWTX said...

yeah, I'll get right on that!!!

AndrewPrice said...

Yeah, that does seem like a daunting task... something which will take more than a weekend.

ellenB said...

Congrats Andrew! Writing a book is hard enough, but writing two?! And it sounds like they're good books too from those who read them.

CrisD said...

Tx for the heads up! Very exciting!
I will get on this ASAP!!

T-Rav said...

Eh. When someone figures out how to convert God's Word into an Excel Spreadsheet, then I'll be impressed.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Ellen! Yeah, it's a lot of work, but it's worth it in the end. :)

AndrewPrice said...

CrisD, Thanks! I really appreciate the help! :)

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, Excel is the work of Satan. Trust me on this. ;)

T-Rav said...

What's PowerPoint then? Purgatory?

AndrewPrice said...

Yes, absolutely purgatory. You clearly have never sat through business meetings with PowerPoint presentations or you wouldn't need to ask.

Satan said...

As much as I'd love to take credit for Excel, I am only a harbinger of death and destruction. Unadulterated evil and chaos is the Anti-Christ's deal.

AndrewPrice said...

Interesting. So I've been sending hate mail to the wrong address. Sorry about that, Satan.

Speaking of hate mail, someone just sent a Noah-grade hail storm at my house for the last two hours. I think it was primarily intended to stop me from grilling, which had sadly already begun. Very effective.

Purgatory Pete said...

We do a lot of PowerPoint presentations here. And arts and crafts, but we're always running out of pipe cleaners. Oh, and we have Monopoly, if you don't mind all the good pieces missing.

FYI, I'm the guy who basically runs Purgatory, in case you were wondering.

AndrewPrice said...

Yeah, I got stuck in a Monopoly game once where everyone owned a little of everything. There was 0.0% chance of anyone winning before the apocalypse, so we finally had to quit. But until we quit, it certainly felt like purgatory.

TJ said...

Way to go Andrew, that's awesome!

I've been trying to write a western since about 1984 or so. I think maybe it's time to just call it quits.

As for Monopoly - my husband considers it purgatory just to think about it.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks TJ! Any help you could offer with a review would be great!

On writing it, I had the same problem in that I had the ideas for years, I wanted to write them, but I just never sat down and did it. And then when I started, it took a while before I got into the right feel for it. Once I was there, however, it became like an obsession to finish.

I actually wasn't even thinking of publishing at that point, I just wanted to see if I could do it, whether I anyone else ever read it or not. It was only later when it was nearly finished that I began to realize that publishing it would be a good idea.

Then I wrote the second one, which was actually harder for me than the first because it was so different in tone and that required a adjustment. Then I toyed around with the idea of getting an agent and ultimately decided against it for a million reasons.

All in all, it's been a great experience! :)

Bravo Zulu Andrew!

I know these two books will be next on my reading list when I can get 'em (I kinda maxed out my Father's Day credit with cd requests, which my lovely wife fulfilled (classic Deep Purple, Nazareth and more Blackfoot in case you were wondering).

Those will most likely contain excellent soundtracks to your books.
I always like listening to music when I'm reading page turners.

I'm betting your books will keep me riveted regardless of the music.
I hope they become best sellers!

BTW, when they get made into films make sure they do it right. Maybe get Nolan to direct. :^)

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, Thanks! :)

And if you like them, please tell all your friends and please leave a review! :)

I would LOVE for these books to be made into films, and yeah, Nolan would be a fantastic choice!

New CD's? Ah, so that explains the post at your website from the other day!

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

Aye. I had vague memories of a few of the songs on that cd (circa 75 or 76 maybe) but that's it. How the song I featured never became a hit I'll never know. Not enough radio play I'm guessing.

My wife had to order that cd from Germany. Southern/blues/rock...from Germany!
Apparently our classic rock is really big over there.

I can anedotedly confirm that in Norway it's the same way (got a few friends there).

Odd that it's not available in the states though.

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, I ran into that a lot before the internet. We used to go every month or so to a store up in Denver called Listen Up, who sold imports. They had all kinds of things you couldn't get here -- and lots of it was American bands!

Of course, it was all expensive.

USS Ben USN (Ret) said...

Well, if European countries are trending more towards classic rock (and by classic rock I definitely don't mean Madonna, although pop could very well also be popular there) I gotta say they have good taste in music. :^)

It's pretty neat to see some of these old bands selling out venues (and cds) in other countries where english is not the first language.

And I'm talking these are true fans.
Many youtube videos confirm this. They even know the words of the songs, lol.

Hopefully your books will also be a hit there. :^)

AndrewPrice said...

Ben, I'd settle for a hit here or there! :)

It is interesting that classic rocks bands are popular in Europe right now, especially as Europe seemed to have moved off into pop-electronica land.

Tennessee Jed said...

just be contrarian, I purchased the paperback versions. it's an old guy, conservative think. I like to feel the actual book in my hands. Of course, I don't text either, so what the heck.

I haven't read the final edits you made to Wrongful Death yet because I couldn't find a MAC friendly format. I'm actually kind of glad to have print versions. As I mentioned to you, these could both be screenplays, and hopefully that will happen. Well done and bravo! :)

Andrew

Tell you what this month I will figure out how to use the Kindle I got for Christmas just for you. Lo0oking forward to reading your books.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, They've both had edits since you read them, so if you're looking for a reason to re-read Without a Hitch as well, there's the reason! :)

Thanks for all your help!

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, I waited a long time to get one, but now that I have one, I can't believe how easy it is to use. It's also dramatically increased the amount I read because it's so easy to do.

I hope you enjoy them both! :)
