No movie tonight. Sorry folks. I'm calling in sick.

  1. Thanks, Kit.

It's just a cold. Tired mainly, not a lot of energy. I should feel better by the weekend.

  3. What the? I thought this was an abusive conservative site? No time off for illness, bereavement, death or other such frivolities!

  4. Feel better soon, Andrew!

  6. I see what's going on. You're forcing us peons to laboriously craft comments in the absence of an article. Touché.

  7. Exactly, this is about getting free labor! Then I'm going to sell your comments on the comment market to spammers, who will post them to a million other websites.

Great. I will finally get the audience I crave and may give up my plan to become a cult leader. Because at my age I´m certainly not going to do it just for the privilege of having jus primae noctis. Get well soon!

  9. El Gordo, You've given me a very disturbing thought, i.e. that all these spam comments are feeding some sort of cult. Imagine all those people at home waiting for the next nonsense comment to come sliding on through the spam filter to give them guidance.

    Thanks! :)

  10. Andrew -

I know you caught the ending of 2012 but I didn't think it would make you sick! I wish you had asked - I might've been able to whip up a review in time for posting.

    ;-)

  11. Scott, Yeah, I think that caused about 27% of what I'm feeling right now. :(

  12. In other news, it looks like Back to the Future is becoming a musical!

Ordinarily, I wouldn't give it much attention... except Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale are returning to write it and original composer Alan Silvestri will be doing the music! I wonder who could play those characters - we've never seen them played by anyone else.

  13. ScottDS - yes, we have. One of them, anyway, sorta....

Btw, Andrew - hope you recover fast.

Good opportunity to catch some Phineas & Ferb on Netflix!

  14. KRS -

I'm aware of that. :-) I guess I meant that the actors played themselves young and old, parents and children, etc. They didn't cast a different actor to play "Old Marty" or "Young Doc" or anything like that. (Unlike, say, casting different actors to play young and old Indiana Jones.)

  15. Since this is essentially open thread...Whoo hoo! My hometown made it into the record books. Omaha, Nebraska: The most dangerous place in America to be black

I had to share b/c of the article's lopsided focus on victims with no mention of perpetrators. Oh, and gun violence is a public health concern. Hat tip: my mom.

  16. Congrats. Any idea why the media decided to smear you? They usually save things like that for the South.

  17. Thanks KRS. :)

Sadly, I had to work... very slowly.

  18. Could be any number of things. Flyover country. Red state. 2nd district flopped away from Obama. High per capita incomes. Dodged the recession (thereby emphasizing that it's still on). An extension of Warren Buffett's self-loathing.

  19. Those are pretty big sins according to the media. I can see the headlines now: "Racist Cornholers (not that there's anything wrong with that) Hunt Blacks In Buffett's Back Yard!"

  20. Rest in peace, Phillip Seymour Hoffman. One of the most enjoyable character actors.

I know I am out of the TV and film loop but I have/had never heard of this person. Why does he matter?

  22. darski,

Hoffman was one of my favorite character actors and has received frequent acclaim for being one of the best of his kind. As one article I recently came across put it, "he was a character actor who came as close to being a movie star as character actors ever get, and...he played the lead in more Hollywood movies than any other portly, freckly, gingery man in human history.

His unfinished work was on the final Hunger Games film. I first took note of him in Twister. He caught a lot more attention opposite Matt Damon in The Talented Mr. Ripley. He won Best Actor for the title role in Capote. He played the villain in M:I III. Beyond that, he starred in a lot of low-key dramas and was "oh! that guy!" in many more films.
